It’s really pretty easy.

1. Pick a day and time that works best for you to meet once a month.

I recommend alternating monthly between a daytime hour and evening hour because not everyone can make the daytime hour meetups and vice versa.  In Chicago I host them on the first Wednesday every month at 10A and 6P, alternating every month.

2. Pick a comfortable location.

I recommend hosting them in a cafe or coffee shop, one that has a back room.  This helps with moms who bring strollers & kids and members can get coffee ‘n treats during the Meetup.  Going local helps to support your community and usually allows for greater ease of scheduling.

3. Send me your location details, the first 3 dates for your Momtrepreneur Exchange Meetup, and I will create a new site on Meetup.com for you (much like these).

Several days upon the new group’s creation, Meetup.com automatically announces it to thousands of members and you will start receiving RSVP’s to your Meetups.  You can also watch your own message board as people ask questions, voice their excitement, raise concerns or double-check as to whether they can really bring their kids.  It’s a lot of fun to watch the group grow before your eyes!

4. Schedule your activities.

I suggest having the first two Meetups as meet-and-greets; network with new members and learn about what businesses each mom runs.  After that, you can schedule an expert for the following 9 Meetups (December: no meetups) — 9 speakers later, your entire year is scheduled! If you need help finding speakers, I have a plethora from which to pick.  And I’m always finding new ones.

5. Come To Order.

I will send you an Introductory Agenda to hand out to each member at the Meetup.  It helps tremendously with making sure that announcements and opportunities and speaker info (and more!) are covered.

Essentially, if you find a place, pick the dates & times and then attend each month, you’ll be able to network and have fun–and really get a lot out of this.  I most definitely have, and I hear only positive things from other co-organizers.  It is my hope that each Momtrepreneur Exchange will develop into its own, unique experience for local momtrepreneurs.  Members in Hoboken, NJ, may develop a vibe that is quite different from their Costa Mesa, CA, counterparts.  You should view this group as your own and grow it to its fullest potential!
